CHAPTER 17

Mystical Origins - Part II

The Companion’s ReConnection - an Ancient Cat's Past

Jade perched weakly on the pizzeria’s windowsill, desperately calling out through the psychic ether. She could feel the Hollow continuing to spread its decaying fingers towards her heart.

Soon it would claim her, as it did all Companions disconnected too long from their witch anchors. But Jade clung fiercely to the vision that had guided her - the one offering a glimmer of renewed purpose.

There remained a Hutchinson descendant out there. The woman with the emerald eyes was somewhere in this busy mainland city. If Jade could only reach her, perhaps forge the lost bond anew, her fading vitae could be restored.

So Jade persisted in reaching out through mystical channels, sending the urgent summons through the intersection of ley lines below the vision of consciousness. Broadcasted on waves of magic, her psychic cry echoed: The last Companion calls. Our line depends on you now...

Hours dragged into days as Jade's message reverberated out unheard across the city’s unforgiving charm. Each night the stars emerged to find her still waiting, emerald eyes trained on the streets below while the Hollow's ache intensified.

On the fifth dusk, an unexpected sound jolted Jade from her tireless watch - the tinkling of wind chimes. The noise seemed out of place, as it cut through the city’s background hustle. Jade scanned the busy sidewalks but found no source.

Again the notes came, faint yet beguiling, conjuring visions of a hidden oasis somehow tucked amidst the urban sprawl. Jade's instincts whispered that this long-awaited reunion lay close at hand. If she could locate the origin of this strange music, perhaps the Hutchinson descendent would be there.

With great effort, Jade transported her frail body down into a deserted alleyway. She stumbled on the rough pavement, each step taxing. But the lovely chimes grew incrementally louder, compelling her onward.

Around a corner, Jade discovered an impossible sight - the entrance to a shrouded garden sanctuary, vines creeping to frame a leafy archway. golden wind chimes dangled from the tendrils, stirred by an absent breeze into magical harmony.

The Hollow slowed its icy creep as Jade felt the last flickering embers of her power respond to this haven's mystical resonance. Whatever arcane forces nurtured this urban oasis, she prayed they might sustain her long enough to find the one she sought.

Passing beneath the living arch, Jade emerged amazed into the unexpected grounds. It was like a fountain of life energy here, the rich textures and kaleidoscope of colors overflowing, interlaced with glints of ambient magic that tingled against her aura.

There were clusters of plants with properties to open psychic minds, and patterned beds of flora to attract healthy dreams. Scents infused the air to cure melancholy and inspire creativity. Jade even spotted a rare time shifter bloom - petals continuously cycling young to old and back again upon their stems - a glimpse into immortality now lost to her kind.

These were heirloom species carefully cultivated over generations by practitioner green witches. Their
